I take Loratadine and used to take Zyrtek, but with both, I still experience allergies?

It seems like no matter what I take, I still have itchy, watery eyes, itching face, nose and throat, alternate from runny nose and post nasal drip to stuffy, highly congested nose, and believe it or not, sometimes both at the same time. I used to wake up nightly because of the congestion, and propping myself up with extra pillows only helps so much. Nasal decongestants ware off after a while, and I don't like taking them all the time because they can be addictive. This lasts from spring all the way to now. I'll probably have a short brake from it in the winter when some of the pollen isn't so rampant, but that's cold and flu season. It seams that I'm miserable year round and I can't afford to see a doctor for an allergy test or allergy shots. Please, does anyone know of anything that can help me? A change in diet perhaps, or home remedies, anything? Maybe a different medication?
