Which Canadian city is better to visit, Toronto or Montreal?

My family and I are taking a trip to Canada this summer, and my father wants to visit Toronto, while I want to visit Montreal. Which city would you recommend? We live in upstate New York, about 4 hours from Montreal, and around 7 from Toronto
