Where did the idea of the Jack O Lantern come from and what does it symbolise?

The Celts are the first ones to celebrate Halloween to scare away ghosts. They carve scary faces on pumkins (Jack-O-Lanterns) and wear costumes to scare away evil spirits. Hope this helps!
