Shouldn't a true free market mean no corporate welfare?

One of the things that bother me about the GOP is that they want a free market solution for something like health care (individual pays for it) but they'll turn around and subsidize a struggling company. Shouldn't a corporation sink or sail on its own steam and not with tax payer dollars?
