Repealing the 2nd amendment... would it make America safer?

I'm guessing not, since hardened murderers would find other means of carrying out such violent crimes, say with kitchen knives, black-market/smuggled weapons, home-made weapons, etc. But many firearm-related murders have originated by gun store purchases, so can't something be done?
